In recent years, with the global expansion of Internet, the communication has developed and deleted distances, but it has impoverished its complexity. To cover this deficiency / absence, new ways of communication arose, in order to transfer emotions through these new channels. Emoticons were the first to come out, and they had the order to convey the emotions recreating in miniature the different facial expressions (through which communications are transmitted). With the increasing spread of the Internet, and especially the Instant Messaging programmes and blogs, avatars are starting to appear next to emoticons. Today the network has become the place where relational exchanges take place in a hyper-simplified way and where the emotion is transmitted mainly through nonverbal communication. Nowadays, in a world where the Internet is increasingly isolating the individual, communication is conveyed through text messages, all becomes more simplified, direct and less personal. The birth of communities, forums and all the new places of relational interaction, born to be used on computers only, has allowed the development of new systems of individual affirmation. On the Web, everyone can create a new image of himself, characterized by anonymity, through pictures and / or words. On the web, you’re nobody. You are a confused identity, that is not well defined. You could be anyone. All that you pretend to be, but also the exact opposite. The concept of this work arises from these considerations and from developed research in several years, through attempts made to convey to “strangers” the real individuality, exclusively through pictures “posted” in so-called “meeting” places of the network, such as community, blogs, IM, forums, etc. …
Published simultaneously in different parts of the web and used as a personal avatar, each of these
portraits was created in 3D, in a completely digital way with no reference or suggestions from photography.
Hard to believe, if you see it in the light of a close-up shot that focuses on the most subtled details.
Each image has a specific date of publication in the community network and a title that refers to the mood of the artist, that belongs to the same day of the portrait’s creation. Thus, each image is a piece of the auto-bio/ photographic diary of the artist who documented and exposed real feelings and moods to an audience that is constantly able to interact with them.
